Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters

Vorkosigan Saga

I got started on Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan novels my junior year of high school - by my chemistry teacher, actually. I'd like to say I was instantly hooked, but it actually took me a little while to realize how brilliant the books are. Bujold mixes genres - among them mystery, romance, and, of course, science fiction - like few other authors I've read dare to do, and she does it while writing some of the most interesting characters I've found in any genre, anywhere.

I didn't start writing fic for the books until much later, however. It was my junior year of college when E.E. Beck finally read the books at my insistence and said to me, "I have this little glimmer of an idea for a Miles/Gregor story." The pairing had never occured to me before, but it appealed to me almost instantly, and before I knew it, A Deeper Season was born. Of course, in the grand tradition of fanfiction writers everywhere, we simply could not leave well enough alone and so since then, there have a number of sequels, written both together and separately. Her stories may be found at her website, But There's a Devil In the Looking-Glass.

This is the one page on my website where the stories are not arranged in the order I posted them; rather, the ADS 'verse stories arranged in the order I think you should read them - chronological order in the universe of the story. Others, like my beta reader Fuzzyboo, have different preferences - she recommends reading the three co-written stories first (ADS, WPB, and "Seeds"), and then all the other ficlets in chronological order.

For non-ADS 'verse Vorkosigan fics I've written, please scroll to the bottom of the page.
